Campbell Thornal Moot Court
This fund was established in 1994 by family and friends in memory of the Honorable Benjamin Campbell Thornal.
Thornal was born in 1908, in Charleston, SC. He earned a juris doctor from the University of Florida in 1930. During WWII, he served as a Navy lieutenant.
From 1955-70, Thornal was a Florida Supreme Court Justice and became a Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice from 1965-67. He also practiced law in Orlando as partner in the firm of Baker & Thornal.
The UF College of Law established the Campbell Thornal Moot Court Competition Team in his honor. He was also awarded Honorary Membership in the Florida Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
He and his wife, Alyce Letton, had two children, Alyce Thornal (Wyatt) Hatch and Benjamin Campbell Thornal III. Thornal passed away in 1970.
