Ralph and Bronia Lowenstein
The Ralph and Bronia Lowenstein Fellowship Fund was established by faculty and friends of the College of Journalism and Communications upon the retirement in 1994 of Dr. Lowenstein as dean of the College. He was one of the longest-serving deans in the history of the University of Florida, holding the dean’s position for 18 years. Dean Lowenstein was born in Danville, Virginia, in 1930, and held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. Bronia Levenson Lowenstein was a native of La Mesa, New Mexico. She was born in 1935 and held a bachelor’s degree from Texas Western College, later to become the University of Texas-El Paso. Before coming to Florida in 1976, Dean Lowenstein was a newspaper reporter in Virginia and Texas, head of journalistic studies at Tel Aviv University, and chair of the News-Editorial Department at the School of Journalism, University of Missouri.
