Marion and John Paul Jones

Marion and John Paul Jones Jr. established this scholarship to benefit the College of Journalism and Communications. John Paul was a freelance writer, reporter, newspaper association leader, poet, scholar, journalism teacher and administrator, textbook writer, civic leader and magazine publisher. He began his UF career in 1948, and in 1968 he became dean of the college. He served as the secretary manager of the Florida Press Association for 16 years and was the editor of the Florida Press. After retiring, John Paul continued to teach until 1979. Marion Jones was the office manager of the Florida Press Association when it was housed in UF’s stadium in the 1950s and 1960s, and she was honored as a life member of the association. She was vice president of North Florida Publishing Inc. and helped her husband start a magazine. John Paul was inducted into the Florida Press Association Hall of Fame in 1989 and was named an alumnus of distinction by the College of Journalism and Communications in 1982.
