Anne and Bernard Panush

This fund was established in 1992 by Professor Richard Panush and Ellen Panush Zelenko to support faculty and student development and research in Judaica, in honor of their parents, Bernard and Anne.

Bernard was born on November 11, 1911. He graduated from Northern High School in Detroit, MI, and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in administration and accounting from Wayne University. He retired as the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works for the City of Detroit in 1976.

Anne was born on November 20, 1911 in Suwalki, Poland and immigrated to the U.S. at age five. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Wayne University and taught in the Detroit public schools until her retirement. Active in Jewish and communal affairs, she taught Hebrew and served as secretary of the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan.

Bernard passed away September 15, 2006 and Anne passed away on January 29, 2009.
