Jasper Joiner
This scholarship honors the memory of Professor Jasper N. Joiner, who was a premier floriculture teacher and researcher and an authority on nutrition of foliage and flowering potted plants. His research, conducted jointly with other faculty at the University of Florida, identified the physiological basis for outstanding performance of foliage plants indoors and resulted in the commercialization of cultural practices to acclimatize foliage plants prior to use in offices and homes. He received numerous awards for his teaching and research and was a Fellow in the American Society for Horticultural Sciences.
Joiner graduated from UF with a bachelor’s degree in 1947 and master’s degree in agriculture in 1955. He obtained his Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
