Bealls Department Stores, Inc. established this endowment in 1991 in honor of the company’s founder, Egbert R. “E. R.” Beall, to support faculty marketing research during the summer. E. R. Beall, who graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S.B.A. in 1938, joined his father, R. M. Beall, at the first Bealls department store in 1940 in downtown Bradenton, Florida. He later revolutionized the company when he opened its first shopping center location in 1953. The Bealls chain has more than 500 stores across the southern states, stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
