Governor R. H. Gore, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
Support scholarships for students in College of Journalism & Communications.
This fund was established by Frederick P. Gore (a son of R.H. Gore) and contributed to by other children and certain grandchildren of Governor Gore.
Born in Kentucky in 1886, Gore was a reporter and editor for several newspapers in the Midwest at the beginning of his career. In 1929, he became publisher and owner of the Ft. Lauderdale Daily News and later was named publisher of the Deland Sun and the Daytona Beach Sun-Record. During his time as publisher and owner of several newspapers in south Florida, Gore played a part in encouraging the development and growth o the area. After 35 years with the Daily News, Gore sold the newspapers he had acquired to pursue a career in politics.
Gore served for one term as the governor of Puerto Rico and was a member of the Florida Board of Regents. He passed away in 197
