Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, P.A. Scholarship

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, P.A. is Tampa’s oldest law firm. Their dedication to providing superior law services began in 1884 when Col. Hugh C. Macfarlane opened the firm’s first branch. Chester Ferguson joined the firm in 1930. In 1946, the firm expanded to Clearwater under the leadership of J. Tweed McMullen.

The firm’s members have been among the most distinguished in the state. Members include a former speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, former chairman of the Board of Regents and four former presidents of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Several of the firm’s members are graduates of UF, including partners Chester Ferguson, J. Tweed McMullen and T. Paine Kelly.

“We look primarily to Florida law schools for our people,” Kelly said about the endowment. “Without the colleges pumping new blood into Florida’s law firms, the firms wouldn’t last very long
