Ted Landsman Endowed Fellowship

Dr. Ted Landsman, a clinical psychologist, taught at the University of Florida for almost 30 years. Completing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Iowa, he then attended Syracuse University for his master’s and doctoral degrees. A counseling, psychotherapy and personality theory specialist, Landsman came to Gainesville in 1958 as a professor of education in the department of Counselor Education. He later directed the counseling psychology program until he retired in 1983.

Landsman published several studies on counseling and group therapy during his tenure and served as a visiting professor at various institutions throughout the United States and abroad, including the University of Vermont, University of Haifa, Bar-Ilan University and Tel-Aviv University. He served as president of the Florida Psychological Association, the Southeastern Psychological Association, the Congregation B’Nai Israel in Gainesville and was an adviser to the Hillel Foundation at UF.

Landsman had a strong interest in promoting peace in the Middle East, directing the peace studies program sponsored by the State University System of Florida and the University of Haifa during the 1970s. When he passed away in 1990 the scholarship was established by his family in his memor
