James W. Kynes Memorial Scholarship Fund
Letter: the James W. Kynes Memorial Scholarship Fund is intended as a perpetual memorial to Jimmy Kynes through scholarships for graduate and professional study to student-athletes who have completed a baccalaureate degree at the University of Florida. The spendable income from the Fund will support graduate and professional student scholarships and awards to former University of Florida I athletes at numbers and levels that comply with then-existing NCAA rules, understanding that the original intent was to support as many former athletes pursuing graduate and professional study as the Fund would be able to meaningfully support. The Selection Committee may determine terms, if any, for renewal. Recipients will be designated as Kynes Scholars.
This scholarship fund is named in honor of Jimmy Kynes, captain of the 1949 Gator football team and All-SEC player. Kynes also was a letterman in baseball. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honors Fraternity as well as the Florida Blue Key. After graduating, he entered law school at UF. He went on to become a distinguished lawyer, Florida Attorney General, corporate executive and dedicated booster for UF. Kynes’ colleagues and friends created the James W. Kynes Memorial Scholarship Fund after his death in 198
