This fund honors Florida native Andrew H. Hines, Jr. Hines who graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Hines became president of Florida Power Corp. and then chairman of the Progress Energy in 1982. Based in North Carolina, the Florida Progress Corp. is an energy company that has had a partnership with UF since 1948. After retiring from the company in 1990, Hines began his own consulting firm. A longtime supporter of UF, Hines served as president of the UF Alumni Association in 1975.
