New York Times Scholarship Fund

The New York Times Co. Foundation, under chairman Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, established the New York Times Scholarship Fund. Sulzberger became publisher of the New York Times in 1963. Taking over the position from his father, Sulzberger had extensive newspaper experience on local news desks and in foreign bureaus. As publisher, Sulzberger led the unification of the daily Times with the Sunday edition in 1964 and increased coverage of fields such as economics, the environment, medicine, law and science. These innovations strengthened the paper’s reputation and streamlined the staff’s organization. In 1992 he was succeeded by his son, Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., and continued as the chief executive officer and chairman until he retired in 199
