This fund was established by Thomas and Donna McGinty in 1987 for the purpose of supporting programs of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Thomas McGinty was born April 5, 1934. After he graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1951, he went to St. Pete Junior College and then to the University of Florida for a year before leaving school to enlist in the Air Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, psychology and chemistry in 1960 from UF. In 1964, he graduated from Miami Medical School with a doctor of medicine degree.
In 1968, McGinty began his radiology career in Ft. Lauderdale, where he still makes his home today. McGinty and his wife, Donna, have three daughters and a stepdaughter, three of whom graduated from UF.
He retired in 1996. Besides his activities of reading history, gardening, Tai Chi and bowling, he remains a member of the UF CLAS Major Gifts Committee, and tries not to miss an opportunity to encourage alumni giving.
