John Buckner Boy dedicated 41 years of his life to the U.S. Sugar Corp. and he was a firm believer in giving to the community. While serving as president for 17 years, Boy ensured that U.S. Sugar donated land for parks, youth centers, libraries, civic centers and academic funding to the state of Florida. He encouraged his employees and those around him to give back to the community. A graduate of Georgia Tech, Boy started at U.S. Sugar in 1946 as an assistant superintendent of the starch house and worked his way to the top. Under his leadership, the company expanded to other products and pioneered innovations in equipment and methods. Mr. Boy retired as president of the company in 1987 and has received many awards for his contributions to the sugar industry and to his community.
