Frederick E. Fisher Accounting Fund

Fred Fisher

This fund was established in 1986 to provide unrestricted income for the Fisher School of Accounting.

Frederick E. Fisher was born in Joliet, Illinois. After service in the U.S. Army he attended the University of Florida and received his BSBA degree in 1959. Shortly after passing the May 1959 CPA exam with the highest grade, he became a partner with Darby, Darby, Odom & Co. From 1966 to 1969 he was partner in Fisher, Morrison & Co.

Fisher was a founder, vice-chairman and chief financial officer of U.S. Home Corporation, which became the nation’s largest homebuilder during his tenure. He is a benefactor to several local charities that primarily provide arts and sports education and activities for youth.

Fisher retired in 1980 and received UF’s Doctor of Humane Letters in 1990 and the Distinguished Alumnus award in 2004. He is a lifetime Alumni Member (#19) and a 26 year Bull Gator. UF’s School of Accounting was named for Fisher in 1986 after his $6.5 million gift, which at the time was the largest contribution ever made to the State University System. He was chairman of UF’s first capital campaign that raised $392 million.

He is married to Aleta B. Fisher and has four children and three grandchildren.
