Genevra Todd and Henry E. Meleney Memorial Fund
GA: support scholarships for College of Medicine; based on scholastic merit & personal standards during first year of medical school.
This fund was established in 1969 by Dr. Henry E. Meleney in honor of his wife, who passed away in 1969.
Dr. Meleney had a distinguished career in medicine. He received his undergraduate education at Dartmouth and his M.D. from Columbia University. He served as a captain in the United States Medical Corps from 1917-1918 and then as a resident pathologist at Presbyterian Hospital, New York. He then accepted a position at Peking Union Medical College in China, where he remained for 7 years researching a number of parasitic disease problems.
Upon returning from China, Henry spent his career as a research professor at a number of prestigious medical schools, including Vanderbilt, NYU and Louisiana State University.
He eventually moved to Gainesville, FL where he retired as a Professor of Medicine Emeritus at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1963.
The couple had two sons, Henry Edmund, Jr. and William Phelps Meleney.
