Nell C. Miller Scholarship
Estate: support partial scholarships for medical students interested in cardiovascular physiology or diseases.
In 1982, this endowed scholarship was created through a generous gift bequeathed by Nell C. Miller. Mrs. Miller was the widow of J. Hillis Miller, UF’s fourth president.
J. Hillis Miller was selected president in 1947 and witnessed UF’s student enrollment triple due to the new GI Bill. In the postwar enrollment boom, the university student body became diversified through the addition of 601 women who made up the first coed class at UF.
J. Hillis Miller died unexpectedly on November 14, 1953 at age 54. In 1959, the J. Hillis Miller Health Center was dedicated in memory of his work to establish Florida’s first medical schoo
