Newton C. Ebaugh Professorship in Mechanical Engineering
Newton C. “Newt” and Anne Ebaugh established this fund in 1977. Born in New Orleans and educated at Tulane and Georgia Tech universities, Newt was always a strenuous advocate for the excellence of the University of Florida’s engineering programs. He was a distinguished and tireless friend, serving as an outstanding educator and a generous supporter. He joined the UF faculty in 1935 and served as chairman of the College of Engineering’s mechanical engineering department until he retired in 1950.
A model engineer and citizen, he organized and headed an engineering consulting firm and served for many years as a chairman of the Alachua County Zoning Commission. He belonged to numerous engineering honorary and professional societies, including the Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Florida Engineering Society. Newt’s wife, Anne Wells Ebaugh, passed away in 1993.
