Although typical spring breaks may be on hiatus this year, students got a recent boost from an on-campus mini-break hosted by the University of Florida Division of Student Affairs and Student Government.

Across campus, more than 2,000 students participated in outdoor and physically distanced activities – laser tag, rock climbing, T-shirt tie-dyeing, morning yoga and more – and created take-home souvenirs, such as custom face coverings, potted bamboo plants and handmade bath bombs.

The February 25 “Recharge Day” was the first of two such days planned for UF’s spring semester; the second will take place on March 24. The university’s traditional mid-semester spring break was removed from the schedule to minimize travel.

“We want these events to give students a chance to relax and rejuvenate,” said D’Andra Mull, vice president for Student Affairs. “It was a joy to see so many students enjoying the Florida sunshine and safely engaging and meeting new friends.”

While the sun set over Norman Field, students rock climbed, played laser tag and ordered from food trucks.

Free, personalized face coverings were among the indoor offerings on Recharge Day. Students could order masks designed from templates or create their own from a mobile device.

Students could play lawn games, including ping-pong, spike ball and chess on an oversized board, throughout the day.

In addition to cupcakes and T-shirts, students could also take home bamboo plants they potted themselves.
