Bill Alcorn earned his bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Florida in 1971 while employed as a sales associate for J.C. Penney Company. Due to Alcorns ingenuity and dedication to his job, he earned a series of promotions that lead to his position as Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Procurement Officer of the entire corporation. Alcorn was a member of the JCPenney Company Leadership Council and advocated female and minority-owned businesses. The Womens Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) elected Alcorn to serve as their first Chairman of the Board for three consecutive years. In 2005, he was nationally recognized for his inspiring efforts for their cause. Bill retired from J.C. Penney in 2008.
Today, Bill and his wife, Patti, live in Texas but their hearts are still very much in Gainesville. Bill has served on the executive advisory board for UFs Miller Center for Retailing Education and Research and as a member of the UF Foundation Board of Directors. Mr. Alcorn is a vice chairman and a former chairman of the Dallas Zoological Society and the North Texas Food Bank.
The Bill Alcorn Undergraduate Student Center, located in Bryan Hall, is home to professional development programs and other college-wide activities in the Warrington College of Business.
