Omar Ergle and Floyd Philmon Scholarship and Student Enrichment Fund

History

Family and friends of Omar Ergle and Floyd Philmon established this fund in their honor. Omar H. Ergle, Jr. was born in Lochloosa, FL in 1931. He was a former agriculture teacher at Pasco High School and a Vocational Educator for Pasco Hernando Community College. While Florida freezes prevented him from successfully growing oranges, he instead turned his attentions to the trees at his farm in Blanton, FL. There he began Ergle Christmas Tree Farm. Ergle passed away on July 26, 1997.

William Floyd Philmon earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural and Life Sciences from the University of Florida in 1951. He has been interested in citrus growing since an early age. He established and runs the Philmon Citrus Nursery in Dade City with his two sons, Timothy and Mark. Floyd and his wife, Ruth, also have one daughter, Becki.
