J. E. Ross International Travel Award Fund

History

Funded by faculty member Dr. James E. Ross and his wife, Erin, this scholarship provides international travel assistance to graduate students in the IFAS Food and Resource Economics Department who are preparing for careers in international trade and development.

Ross rejoined UF in 1992 after retiring as a senior foreign service officer with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. He was an Assistant Administrator of FAS and served as Agricultural Counselor with American Embassies in Caracas, Cairo, and Seoul, and with the U.S. Mission to UN Agencies in Rome. Earlier in his career at UF, he served as Assistant Dean for Extension Agricultural Programs and as Associate Director for International Agricultural Programs in IFAS. In addition, he served as Chief of Party for UF on projects in Accra, Ghana, and San Jose, Costa Rica.

Ross earned B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois between1953 and 1966. He has had more than 30 years experience in international agricultural trade and development. Ross lived and worked in seven foreign countries and carried out consulting assignments and official visits in more than 50 countries.
