James A. Cummings, Inc. Scholarship Fund
History
James A. Cummings, William R. Derrer and Peter MacEachron, founders of James A. Cummings Inc., initiated the James A. Cummings Inc. Scholarship Fund. James Cummings is chairman and CEO of the company. He and his wife, Jan, are alumni of the University of Florida. Mr. Cummings is a director of the South Florida Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and presently serves as chairman of the Advisory Council of the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction Executive Committee. Mrs. Cummings served as chairperson of the State School Board Association of Florida, chairperson of the Broward County School Board and chairperson of the Broward Community College Board of Trustees. Their daughters, Mindy and Kasey, are also graduates of UF. William R. Derrer (Rick) is presently president of the company. Both he and his wife, Pat, are graduates of UF. Rick is director of the Construction Association of South Florida. Peter MacEachron retired in 1996. Both Peter and his wife, Ginny, are graduates of UF.
Criteria
M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction students from (listed in priority) Broward, Dade or Palm Beach Counties or anywhere in Florida; must have at least 2.75 GPA and be able to communicate well in writing.
