NORTHERN TRUST BANK DEMONSTRATES PARTNERSHIP BY SUPPORTING COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE AND HARN MUSEUM
Gift total of $500,000 to support programming, exhibits and facilities enhancements
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In a show of support for veterinary medicine and the fine arts, Northern Trust Bank has made a gift of $500,000 to the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.
The gift, which will be equally divided between the two UF units, will be used to sponsor exhibits and programming at the Harn, and for projects and facility enhancements at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
"Northern Trust Corporation has a firm commitment to the University of Florida," said William Morrison, chairman of Northern Trust Bank of Florida. "The Harn Museum is of particular interest to Northern Trust because of our long-standing involvement with the arts. We also feel that it's important to contribute to the state's only school of veterinary medicine."
The UF College of Veterinary Medicine has ranked in the top ten veterinary medicine programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for the past five years.
“Northern Trust Bank is exemplifying the importance of private support of the veterinary sciences in our great state,” said Joseph DiPietro, dean of UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine. They are helping the University of Florida continue with its mission to serve the state’s veterinary needs.”
“The Harn Museum, like most other arts programs, would not exist without support such as demonstrated by Northern Trust Bank,” said Rebecca Nagy, director of the Harn Museum at the University of Florida. We look forward to sharing the benefits of their gift with all Floridians and others who visit our facilities on the campus of UF.”
Opened in 1990, the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art is Florida's first major art museum in a state university setting, and is dedicated to collecting, preserving, presenting and interpreting original and exemplary works of visual art.
Through its exhibitions and educational programs, the museum enhances the teaching and research activities of the university and serves a culturally diverse regional, national and international audience.
Northern Trust Corporation is one of the country's largest trust and investment managers and a leading provider of private banking services. Founded in Chicago in 1889, Northern Trust has 27 offices in Florida.
