Lake Lytal, Jr. Scholarship Fund

History

Lake Lytal Jr., a successful West Palm Beach lawyer, graduated from UF in 1965. After working at the firm Howell, Kirby and Montgomery, he and Joe Reiter founded the firm Lytal and Reiter in 1985. Specializing in personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, product liability, negligence and insurance claims, the firm has been recognized by the publication "The Best Lawyers in America." Lytal served as president of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers in 1994-95 and was a member of the UF Law Center Association Board of Trustees in 1994 and 1996. He created an endowed scholarship in 1991 to assist law students with completing their degree.

Criteria

Entering students; based on merit and financial need; 3.2 - 4.0 GPA in law school needed to renew. Consideration given to applicants with the following qualities: commitment to making meaningful contributions to a pluralistic community and the continuation of a diverse student body; sensitivity to and understanding of racial and ethnic issues in society; commitment to learning to better communicate across the social lines of gender race, generation, geography and class; ability to overcome educational, social or family disadvantages and academic merit and leadership potential.
