J. Wayne Conner Memorial Scholarship/Fellowship
History
This fund was established in memory of J. Wayne Conner in 2001 to support students majoring in French. Professor Conner joined the University of Florida's faculty in 1962 as a professor of romance languages and literatures and later served as chairman of the Department of Foreign Languages. During his tenure, he was responsible for developing and expanding the foreign language programs and was a leader in the creation of the linguistics program. He also served on several professional organizations, including the Modern Language Association, in which he chaired the medieval French section and the 19th-century French literature section. In 1977, the University made him a distinguished service professor.
Criteria
Meritorious undergraduate and graduate students majoring in French. Recipients are selected by faculty committee.
