Madelyn M. Lockhart Graduate Fellowship
History
Dr. Madelyn M. Lockhart joined the UF College of Business Administration faculty in 1960. In 1967, she left to teach at the University of Tennessee and Guilford College in North Carolina. She later returned to UF as a professor of economics. In 1981, she was named the associate dean of the graduate school and then became dean in 1985. She held a dual appointment as Dean of International Studies and Programs from January 1985 through August 1993. Retiring from UF in 1995, she serves as a consultant for governmental and educational agencies in economic development.
Lockhart earned her bachelor's degree in economics from Denison University in Ohio. She obtained her master's and doctorate from Ohio State University, where she later became an instructor of economics. In 1969, she served on President Johnson's Council of Social Advisors. She has also served as an economic consultant to several federal and state agencies including the National Task Force on Population for the U.S. Bureau of the Census from 1973-77 and the National Task Force on Revenue Sharing for the U.S. Bureau of Economic Activity from 1975-77. She spent time traveling throughout Africa, where she researched collective decision making in African societies. Her research has appeared in more than 50 publications and technical reports. Lockhart is also a member of the American Economic Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Sigma Xi.
Criteria
Outstanding female graduate students in dissertation phase of their degree; must be full-time, have completed course work and passed qualifying exam.
