Irving and Elna Kallman Scholarship Fund
History
This scholarship was sponsored by the Florida Book Store Inc. under the direction of owner and president Clayton H. Kallman. Kallman grew up in Gainesville during the 1940s and 1950s, graduating from high school in 1959. At Johns Hopkins University, Kallman earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees before beginning a career in academics as an applied research statistician in the cardiology department at the university’s medical school.
Kallman returned to Gainesville in 1984 to pursue an interest in business as president of the Florida Book Store. The Florida Book Store was started by his father and mother, Irving and Elna Kallman, in 1933.
