History
Vermelle “Vam” Cardwell York, wife of Dr. E.T. York, was UF's interim First Lady from 1973-74. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Auburn University, where she served as president of the Women's Student Government. She has been president of two family-owned real estate corporations in Gainesville since 1969. In addition to serving on a variety of university and civic boards, Dr. and Mrs. York have been involved in numerous philanthropic activities in Gainesville and at UF for many years. She is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America.
The Vam Cardwell York Scholarship is awarded for excellence in scholarship and leadership.
Criteria
Juniors or seniors with a 3.6 GPA or greater who demonstrate responsible leadership and give service to the university and/or the community.
