History
Nell Critzer Miller, wife of Dr. J. Hillis Miller, was UF’s First Lady from 1947 to 1954. She graduated from Madison College in Harrisburg, Va., and taught for two years at Bridgewater College. She served as the assistant director of the Wesley Foundation for Methodist students and established and directed the patient services offices of Shands teaching hospital. In 1960 she gained recognition as Gainesville’s Woman of the Year and in 1970, UF presented Mrs. Miller with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. She was very involved in the planning of the present President’s Home at the university.
The Nell Critzer Miller Scholarship is awarded for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service to the community and campus.
Criteria
Juniors with a 3.6 GPA or greater who demonstrate responsible leadership and give service to the university and/or the community.
