History
Kathryn “Kay” Williams Bryan, wife of Dr. Robert A. Bryan, was UF’s interim First Lady from 1989-90. She was born in St. Petersburg and is a third generation Floridian. She graduated from Florida State College for Women. She served as a translator in the U.S. Office of Censorship and later worked as a Red Cross Aide, flight attendant and a director of tours to Cuba. During the Korean Conflict, she served as an administrative assistant to the superintendent of American Dependent Schools in Tokyo, Japan. The two Bryan children, Matt and Lyla, are both graduates of the University of Florida. Kay Bryan holds the distinction of having served as interim First Lady at three Florida universities: the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida.
The Kathryn Bryan Scholarship is designated for students who excel in scholarship, leadership and service the university and community.
Criteria
Juniors or seniors with a 3.6 GPA or greater who demonstrate responsible leadership and give service to the university and/or the community.
