PALO ALTO, Ca., March 25, 2002 – Wu-Fu Chen, the legendary Silicon Valley entrepreneur, was presented with The President’s Medallion as the University of Florida’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” by UF President Charles Young at a reception yesterday evening at the Garden Court Hotel. Chen, the founder of more than a dozen successful technology companies, is a graduate of UF’s College of Engineering.
A native of Taiwan, Chen completed his undergraduate education at the National Taiwan University and earned a master’s degree at the University of Florida. Often referred to as a “serial entrepreneur,” he has been the mastermind behind companies such as Communications Equipment Corporation, Ardent Communications and Arris Networks. He guided his most successful venture, Cascade Communications, through its IPO and through the company’s peak to a market capitalization of more than $10 billion.
Chen has recently been active in mentoring up-and-coming entrepreneurs through two newly created incubators--Acorn Campus in California and Genesis Campus in Texas—as well as a new incubator and fund in Shanghai, China. He resides in Los Altos, Ca.
