Honoree
Raymer Francis Maguire (1890-1960) attended the University of Florida in the early 1900s. While at UF, he served as student body president from 1914 to 1915. Maguire graduated in 1915 as a member of the first Honor Graduate Law School class. After graduation, Maguire practiced law but also delved into other business ventures, including citrus farming and land development. Maguire stayed involved with the university and served as President of the Alumni Association from 1926 to 1928. Thereafter, he served on the Florida Board of Control, predecessor of the Florida Board of Governors, until 1933. In 1935, he received the President’s Medal for Service to the University and was later honored as an Outstanding Alumnus in 1953.
Maguire’s son, Raymer F. Maguire, Jr., established the UF commemorative plaque program, which provides signage for historic sites on campus.
Facility History
Raymer Francis Maguire Memorial Village opened in 1972, and houses graduate students and their families. The facility consists of two-story concrete and brick veneer buildings with a commons building, a manager’s office, laundry, playgrounds, a recreation/study room and a swimming pool. Each apartment is centrally air-conditioned and heated. As a HUD financed multi-family project, there are some residency restrictions.
