Earle B. Phelps Lab
Honoree
Earle B. Phelps graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, serving later as an Associate Professor in the Biological Department. He worked for the National Institute of Health in the Division of Chemistry, conducting a series of studies on water pollution and the biochemistry of sewage and industrial wastes. The Florida Water Environment Association bestows the Earle B. Phelps award annually to wastewater treatment facilities that have maintained the highest removal of pollutants in recognition for Phelps' pioneering work.
Facility History
The Phelps Lab is home to the Howard T. Odum Center for Wetlands, a forum for interfacing traditional engineers with ecologists especially regarding the use of natural and constructed wetlands for waste water treatment.
